Common-Sensical Parenting

   Posted by: AUDIOMIND   in Uncategorized

Parenting is common-sensical.

Let me explain what I mean by that?

I think all Earth’s creatures inherently know how to properly raise their young. If a certain creature did not possess that knowledge, the species simply wouldn’t survive. We humans have survived because we know how to raise children. We knew how to be parents long before the scene became saturated with people like psychologists, psychiatrists, counselors, school teachers, nurses, doctors, mental health ‘professionals’, etc., constantly giving parenting advice. In fact, I think we did a generally better job of raising children before there were people like that. Ironically, I happen to believe that parents will begin to regain the common sense of raising children when they stop listening to people like that. I think our collective common sense concerning children has been swamped by a tidal wave of psychobabble that’s lasted some 40 years now.

Thoughts?

Agree And Disagree

I think on the one side, mostly the extreme left (in America, at least) tend to deify the pop-psychologist and treat their children like little flowers, protecting them and watering them like they were toys instead of miniture humans.

But the other side is probably just as bad, if not worse. Without the psychologists telling them that smacking them around is wrong, or that you can severely handicap a child’s mental growth, you get the illiterate hillbillies or the fanatical fundamentalists, which are primarily populated by the extreme right or the lesser-educated among middle America.

While it’s easy to say that the psychological community has destroyed the parenting ability of today’s parents, there had to be something that molded our 25-45 year olds into the dimwit sheep they are now, and that was probably how they were raised in the 50’s-70’s. And if their parents were listening to the psychobabble of the 50’s and 70’s, it’s easy to see why they’d have no clue, because psychology was really in its infancy, and in many ways, it’s only in recent years gotten anywhere beyond the simple “he’s messed up because of that time when he was 5 when he got yelled at once”.

Psychology as a field has been so demonized because it was mostly guesswork, and easy to exploit, especially in a country so faith-based that they’ll believe any higher authority without question as long as it caters to their specific wants/needs/insecurities.

So, that’s no to say you’re wrong, it’s more to say that it’s horrible that a legitimate field of study that has done so many great things for so many people has been destroyed by morons willing to exploit the stupidity of the common peasant for a quick buck.

Thanks to such institutions as the American Medical Association, we’ve done a lot to destroy the quack physicians that ran rampant in the mid-late 1800’s, but it required mass amounts of research to set up definitive information to verify who was and wasn’t a quack. The psychological community has less to work with, and can’t be regulated as easily, especially with something as intangible as the “psyche”, which everyone disagrees about.

Give it another 200 years and it won’t be that way.

Re: Agree And Disagree

Though I might agree to an extent, don’t you hold the belief that most mental health ‘professionals’ tell us nothing more than what we already know and/or are fully capable of understanding?

Re: Agree And Disagree

I think most mental health professionals tell YOU and ME what WE already know. It’s the other 99% of the people that don’t understand.

It’s like britney spears. They feed it to the mindless masses, and the mindless masses ask for more. It’s not one side controlling the other, it’s both sides feeding the other. It’s symbiotic, not parasitic.

Self perpetuating stupidity.

If people were able to handle the blow of hearing that they have flaws, psychologists would have a simple pamplet that said “sometimes you’re stupid and you need to be less stupid sometimes.” and most people would be able to take that information and apply it to their life.

But they’re weak, and dumb, and need sometime to explain to them that kids are mini adults and have to be treated like adults. Cause, effect, action, reaction, consequence, responsibility… Not “do it or you’re gonna get hit” without reason or logic.

But instead, they’re just so damned dumb they need Dr. Phil to tell them about “harming a kid’s psyche” and “loving environments” and “NO is too strong a word” and blah blah blah… And people are too dumb to even understand THAT.

Without the psychobabble we’d be another 3rd world country with marriages at age 13, and 5 kids at age 15.

Y’know, like in Arkansas.

The true psychologists have to fight through the fairy tale media bullshit, the religious indoctrination, and the blatent stupidity of the common person before their message is heard, and that’s after THEY battled it in themselves.

It’s no wonder the idiot crackpots are winning.
