Getting Your Government Files by Filing FOIA Requests

   Posted by: AUDIOMIND   in Uncategorized

‘March 11 marked the start of America’s third annual Sunshine Wee, a national effort to cast light onto the growing recesses of government secrecy’.

US News is offering up the latest information on the Freedom of Information Act, with links to filing FOI requests to US states, the federal government, and 67 other countries.

“Often the records can be obtained by simply asking for them, but since 9/11, federal agencies have grown increasingly stubborn about what they release. A just-released survey by the National Security Archive found that only 1 in 5 federal agencies meets congressionally mandated requirements for online information access. There’s hope, though: A new bill is making its way through the House of Representatives, with bipartisan backing, that would strengthen the FOIA, one of a host of open government measures being looked at by the new Congress.”

Here’s an online guide to getting what the government’s got:

  • The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press has an easy-to-use FOI letter generator, for general requests under the Freedom of Information Act.
  • For an individual’s files, people should make requests under the Privacy Act. Here are relevant forms from the Freedom of Information Center at the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism.
  • Although access varies, every state now has open meetings or open records laws. The Reporters Committee has a handy guide on this, too.

The question you should be asking yourself is this……
“If I do happen upon a FOIA request, to any of the number of governmental agencies, will by inference this cause my file to expand?”

One of the Problems with Organized Religion

   Posted by: AUDIOMIND   in Uncategorized

Why do the three major religions — Christianity, Islam and Judaism — not seem able to attract larger numbers of twenty to thirty year olds into their houses of worship.

I’ll save you a lot of research time.

Have priests, rabbis and imams start telling their parishioners that individuals can define for themselves how to practice their own connection with G.O.D. and within one generation we’ll see far more people who are active in various religious communities.

In reality though this kind of radical evolution won’t occur in organized religion because, as its name suggests, organized religion requires organizing people to think in similar pliant ways. And how — some people ask — can religious organizations allow their members to commune with G.O.D. in whichever way they desire and still be considered “organized”?

Did I mention $?

Hopefully most of you are aware of the impending DST change, which was mandated by Congress back in 2005. For the first time in 20 years, daylight saving time will not start on the first Sunday in April. Instead, it will begin three weeks earlier, at 2 a.m. on the second Sunday in March, the 11th and last until November 2007.  (woo-hoo for more hours of sunlight!!)

The change was included in a bill called the Energy Policy Act of 2005

Below you will find a couple solutions relating to altering your time clock before any technical problems arise…..

The workaround that Microsoft provides is not easy to follow.

An easier choice would be just togo here:

This program utility will update windows NT/2000/XP/2003/Vista machines to the new USA daylight saving time requirements in 2007 in one easy step:

http://www.intelliadmin.com/DaylightSavingFix.exe

It updates Daylight Saving Time (Yes it is Saving, not Savings) in these time zones:

  • Alaska Standard Time Zone
  • Central Standard Time Zone
  • Eastern Standard Time Zone
  • Mountain Standard Time Zone
  • Pacific Standard Time Zone
  • Atlantic Standard Time Zone (Canada)
  • Newfoundland Standard Time Zone (Canada)

Many people have become familiar with the mechanics of the RIAA lawsuit engine. One of the agents of the RIAA, such as Media Sentry, downloads a file from an unsuspecting file-sharer. A screenshot is made of the individual’s shared directory, or several files are downloaded to ensure a viable case. The individual’s IP address is then obtained. The RIAA then subpoenas the file-sharer’s ISP requesting the personal information associated with that IP address when the alleged upload occurred. The RIAA then informs the unsuspecting file-sharer of an impending lawsuit, but also gives the option to settle. A typical settlement costs between $3,000 and $5,000 US.

…………..

The new RIAA plan implements a device called a “pre-lawsuit letter”. The plan is currently underway, as the RIAA has already sent 400 of these letters to various college campuses. Basically, the letter is sent to the collegeor university, and is then forwarded to the student. Instead of threatening a lawsuit outrightly, within 20 days the student has the option to settle at a “discount”. The RIAA would not elaborate on how much this discount was. We can only speculate that it is less than the current financial lawsuit threshold of $3,000.”

i give you a song…..
