    Who have you used and who do you recommend (or not!)?

    *Update*
    I’ve used 1&1, Dreamhost, Godaddy and Network Solutions and am looking for other smaller and more reputable companies.

    Dan Pewzner at Zipcon.net Small company. I’ve been with him for years and referred friends to him who also have stayed with him for years. Good prices, good features, GREAT service. Call support and odds are Dan is the one who picks up the phone and he’s never failed to be helpful.

    One time I was having DSL modem issues. Couldn’t pinpoint them over the phone, so Dan downloaded the most current drivers for my modem (because I couldn’t) and burned them to CD. He had some other errands to run that brought him down my way (so he said) so he delivered the disc IN PERSON to my home. What more can I say?

    Of course you need to live in Seattle to get this particular level of service, but needless to say I haven’t bothered looking at anyplace else for a long, long time.

    freeservers is lame, but sufficient for many purposes.

    Hostway is awesome. Pricey by comparison, but I think it’s well worth it if you’re in the market for something bigger and better. Truly top shelf.
