The Health Care Reform Address Obama Should Had Given

   Posted by: AUDIOMIND   in Uncategorized

Clark Howard, a consumer advocate who regularly appears on TV/Radio/etc, got it absolutely right when he delivered his own health care reform ’speech’. This reform must be consumer driven, with the emphasis placed on the individual taking responsibility for their own health care!

http://clarkhoward.com/liveweb/shownotes/2009/09/09/16614/

“Madam Speaker, Mr. Vice President, members of Congress and the most beautiful First Lady in the history of the United States (Clark’s wife Lane), I want to address you about health care reform and what I want you to put on my desk to sign into law.

For months, there have been angry words and both sides of the aisle have been talking past each other. But tonight I propose we go to a health care system that we can afford and that will allow market forces to finally enter health care in the United States.

We must address head-on that the federal government deficits we are running are not sustainable. The commitments to seniors with Medicare and the impoverished with Medicaid are not sustainable. We can not afford as a federal government to provide for the health care of the citizenry. It’s just not possible.

In addition, our current system is based largely on luck. Either you’re lucky enough to work for an employer that provides health coverage or you unlucky enough to be self-employed, work for a smaller employer or have a pre-existing condition that makes you a pariah for insurers.

Employer provided health care was an accident of history. It only exists because of a move by employers some 50 years ago to provide health care as a back-door way to give raises during the days of wage price controls — when the feds said that employers couldn’t give pay raises.

Unfortunately, it’s grown into an unsustainable haphazard system. If you go back 50 years, an employee would be a “lifer” at a job and there was a reciprocal relationship between employer and employee. Today it doesn’t work like that. Employers add or subtract employees at will and we pick up and move as we see fit.

But many times someone may have an illness and can’t leave an employer because of health coverage. We need a new system to address the fact that we don’t stay put for a long time. We need to move away from centralization of health care from government or employers.

We also need to introduce the marketplace. How can this be done? We need to create an individual health insurance market where each individual in each family buys his or her own coverage. We can’t allow employers to be the sole source of safe venue for coverage, but instead have to create an insurance market based on the principles of standardized policies.

Insurers will be allowed to charge what they wish based on age/sex, but we need standard policies you can pick and choose from.

Choice is the key to driving smart decisions. Some like the structure of an HMO, some like the freedom of a traditional fee-for-service plan. Others want an in-between option like a PPO with a list of cheap in-network providers and more costly out-of-network ones. Yet others, such as entrepreneurs, love HSAs, where you take a high-deductible health insurance plan and you are essentially your own insurer for routine things.

We should allow Americans to choose from all 4 options, but the coverage should be standardized across all insurance companies so consumers can comparison shop.

Not everybody should have to buy the same HMO or the same PPO coverage. I think there should be 3 levels of choice in each — 3 different HMOs, 3 PPOs, 3 traditional plans and 3 HSAs, each with different levels of coverage.

For example, a basic plan would provide only generics medications and no experimental treatments. Each level would have different care for you. But you would have the choice of what you want to buy.

If an employer wants to subsidize the health care with a voucher, that’s fine, but you would still be in control of the purchase. So even if you left your employer, you would still have insurance.

If someone chooses not to buy insurance, that’s fine too. If you do become ill, you’ll be barred from buying coverage for 24 months. Otherwise, the healthy would never buy until they’re sick.

The moral choice is so key here. If we rely on government or an employer to decide what coverage is good for us, we give them the power of life and death over us. But if we make our own choice, then it puts us in control and eliminates the moral dilemma of will we tax ourselves more to provide more coverage or tax less to provide less coverage.

And for those without means, both sides of the aisle seem to agree on a voucher system that would scale back as the level of income rises. I think that’s a reasonable option. But I can tell you that we can not solve the cost issue with health care, without having a collision with morality, if we do not put the patient in charge. That’s the key.

You must be the person who decides what coverage you want, what coverage you choose not to buy and who you buy it from. It’s that simple. Health care costs account for one-sixth of our economy and we have to get control of that one-sixth, but at the same time provide true power back where it belongs — with the American people. Thank you very much.”

We All Deserve to Be Happy

   Posted by: AUDIOMIND   in Uncategorized

Everyone is Different
Happiness in life is like a smorgasbord. If 100 people went to a smorgasbord and each put food on their plate in the quantity and mix that each felt would be most pleasing to him, every plate would be different. Even a husband and wife will go up to the smorgasbord and come back with plates that look completely different. Happiness is the same way. Each person requires a particular combination of those ingredients to feel the very best about himself or herself.

Listen to Your Heart
Your mix is changing continually. If you went to the same smorgasbord every day for a year, you probably would come back with a different plateful of food each time. Each day-sometimes each hour-only you can tell what it takes to make you happy. Therefore, the only way to judge whether a job, a relationship, an investment, or any decision, is right for you is to get in touch with your feelings and listen to your heart.

Be True to Yourself
You’re true to yourself only when you follow your inner light, when you listen to what Ralph Waldo Emerson called the “still, small voice within.” You’re being the very best person you can be only when you have the courage and the fortitude to allow your definition of happiness, whatever it may be, to be the guiding light of every part of your life.

There Are No Limits
A very important point on the subject of happiness is whether or not you feel that you “deserve” to be happy.

Accept the notion that you deserve all the happiness you can honestly attain through the application of your talents and abilities. The more you like and respect yourself, the more deserving you will feel of the good things in life. And the more deserving you feel, the more likely you will attain and hold on to the happiness you are working toward.

Make Happiness Your Key Measure
You should make happiness the organizing principle of your life. Compare every possible action and decision you make against your standard of happiness to see whether that action would make you happier or unhappier. Soon, you will discover that almost all of the problems in your life come from choices that you have made – or are currently making – that do not contribute to your happiness.

Pay the Price
Of course, there are countless times when you will have to do little things that don’t make you happy along the way toward those larger things that make you very happy indeed. We call this paying the price of success in advance. You must pay your dues. Sometimes these interim steps don’t make you happy directly, but the happiness you achieve from attaining your goal will be so great that it totally overwhelms the temporary inconveniences and dissatisfactions you have to endure in order to get there.

You Are Your Own Strongest Asset

   Posted by: AUDIOMIND   in Uncategorized

The best thing you can do for yourself is believe in yourself. You know you’re a valuable person, and you should act like it. By realizing your own true potential everybody else will too. When you think positively, you develop the confidence that attracts people to you.

When you feel good about yourself and what you have to offer, people recognize this and they want to learn more about you. A positive attitude is the best thing you can bring to any table. You are your own strongest asset. The best way to begin thinking positively about yourself is to “do your homework.” Here are five simple steps that can help you fully realize how valuable you are:

1. Assess yourself

Make a mental list or jot down on paper what your best qualities are. It’s important to be honest with yourself about this. You need to know these things, so you’ll feel confident about communicating them to others. Put aside some time to make this list, so you will be prepared when the time comes. If you’re not sure where to start, ask a trusted friend who knows you well to suggest what they think your strongest points are.

2. Keep a positive state of mind

Remember, you CAN fulfill your dreams. If you have had bad luck in the past, remind yourself that there’s always hope. Hard work does pay off. You may not find it right away, but if you stay positive, you will get positive results.

3. Re-program yourself

Sometimes the only thing getting in our way is ourselves. Your mind frame has a lot to do with the way you see things and how you get things done.

Make everything you do somehow benefit you or someone you care about. Keep reminding yourself that the end result will be a good one. Next, make little changes that will help you in the long run. Lastly, don’t focus on the things you’ve done (or faced) that have hurt you. Instead, focus on the things you’ve done to improve yourself and make a list of things you can do from now on to create a positive outlook.

4. Visualize and achieve

The most important thing about positive thinking, is seeing yourself achieving your goal. You know you can do it, so start by telling yourself that. You are your best motivator, so act as if. Visualize yourself in the dreams you desire and you will start to believe. Whatever you do-take yourself seriously. You have the power, so use it. Visualize by imagining or seeing a picture of what you want in your mind. Believing in yourself is the best thing you can do to get closer to your dream. Realize this dream and you will achieve it.

With your newfound attitude, you should be moving fast on the road to success. You will be amazed by the power of positive thinking and how much it can do for you. This will give you the power and confidence to prove yourself to others (and yourself) and show how indispensable you are.

Fix’n Your Own Computer

   Posted by: AUDIOMIND   in Uncategorized

A lot of the questions I get are from people with messed-up computers, wondering if they should head for the repair shop. In most cases, I recommend that people try to fix the problem on their own and give them detailed instructions for doing so. I’ve put together a list of some of the most common “computer self help” questions just in case you need a little help, and want to save a bunch of money. Feel free to add anything I haven’t covered. :-)

* SLOW COMPUTER? – I have a theory that sludge builds up inside a computer over time, much like an automobile engine. After a while, it doesn’t start up like when it was new, it stalls unexpectedly, and performance is sluggish. Here’s my special recipe to clean that icky goo out of your computer’s pipes, so Windows will start quicker, run more reliably, and go faster on the information superhighway…

* WHICH ANTI-VIRUS OR ANTI-SPYWARE? – I hear from some readers who run 2 or 3 anti-virus programs, and half a dozen anti-spyware tools. Personally, I think that’s overkill. Feuding “anti’s” can cause system lockups, and slow down your computer. Here’s my personal arsenal of free software to fight viruses, spyware and popups…

* SYSTEM RESTORE – Wouldn’t it be nice if you could go back to a point in time when your computer was working? Think of System Restore as the Undo command for Windows. Learn how to turn back the clock on your blunder or computer emergency…
http://askbobrankin.com/system_restore.html

* RECOVERY CONSOLE – Sometimes viruses, spyware or random cosmic rays will attack your computer, leaving you unable to even start Windows. In many cases, the Windows XP Recovery Console can help you fix the problem.

* REMOTE ASSISTANCE – This free tool built into Windows lets your geeky friends interact with your computer just like they were sitting in front of it, even if they’re half a world away. You see everything they’re doing, so you can learn how to fix the problem yourself next time.
http://askbobrankin.com/remote_assistance.html

* SHARING A PRINTER – If you have two PC’s but only one printer, you can share the printer so both can print to it. And you don’t have to be a computer guru to make it happen. Here’s how…
http://askbobrankin.com/sharing_a_printer.html

* LOW VIRTUAL MEMORY – If you get a message saying ‘Your system is low on virtual memory’ you probably need to install more RAM. But there are some other things you should check first…
http://askbobrankin.com/low_virtual_memory.html

* FIX MASTER BOOT RECORD – “I was trying to fix a spyware problem and it seems I messed up my computer. Now when I start Windows XP I get the ‘MBR Corrupt’ and ‘Error loading operating system’ messages.” Here’s how to fix a computer that won’t boot up…
http://askbobrankin.com/fix_mbr.html

* DO YOU NEED A REGISTRY CLEANER? – If your computer keeps getting slower and slower, you might need to clean your registry. Here’s the scoop on the Windows Registry and how to keep it tidy:
http://askbobrankin.com/do_i_need_a_registry_cleaner.html

* DO YOU NEED A FIREWALL? – Perhaps you’ve heard conflicting reports on whether or not you should be using a firewall. Some people say you MUST have a firewall if you have a highspeed DSL or cable connection. Here’s the scoop on WHO needs a firewall, WHAT they do, and WHY you might be wasting your money on firewall software.
http://askbobrankin.com/do_i_need_a_firewall.html

* WIRELESS SECURITY – Since wireless networks are easy to set up, some people don’t realize they are offering free Internet to anyone driving by with a laptop. Most people wouldn’t want to allow their home network to be shared by strangers or used for illegal activity. Here’s how to keep it from happening…
http://askbobrankin.com/wireless_security.html

* COMPUTER RESTARTS ITSELF – Does your Windows XP computer often restart itself for no apparent reason? It could be overheating, bad RAM, a software glitch, or spyware. Here’s how to identify and solve the automatic restart problem…
http://askbobrankin.com/computer_restarts_itself.html

* INSTALLING A NEW HARD DRIVE – If you’re running low on hard drive space, a new drive at today’s low storage prices is a good idea. But should you a SATA, IDE, external or portable drive? And how big is big enough? Here are some tips on selecting & installing a drive, and help copying the files from your old drive.
http://askbobrankin.com/add_a_second_hard_drive.html

* CDROM OR DVD ICONS ARE GONE – If your CDROM and/or DVD icons are suddenly missing, it’s possible that evil gnomes have snuck into your computer and stolen the drive. But more likely, it’s a software problem that’s pretty easy to fix…

Using Stumbling Blocks as Stepping Stones

   Posted by: AUDIOMIND   in Uncategorized

Everyone makes mistakes and the busier you are, the more mistakes you will make. The only question is “How well and how effectively do you deal with the inevitable ups and downs of life?”

Here you will learn the difference between a positive and negative worldview. You will learn how to benefit from your mistakes and how to remain positive in the face of adversity.

Let the Light Shine In
This is achieved through the simple exercise of self-disclosure. For you to truly understand yourself, or to stop being troubled by things that may have happened in your past, you must be able to disclose yourself to at least one person. You have to be able to get those things off your chest. You must rid yourself of those thoughts and feelings by revealing them to someone who won’t make you feel guilty or ashamed for what has happened.

Using Stumbling Blocks as Stepping Stones
There are two ways to look at the world: the benevolent way or the malevolent way. People with a malevolent or negative worldview take a victim stance, seeing life as a continuous succession of problems and a process of unfairness and oppression. They don’t expect a lot and they don’t get much. When things go wrong, they shrug their shoulders and passively accept that this is the way life is and there isn’t anything they can do to make it better.

On the other hand, people with a benevolent or positive worldview see the world around them as filled with opportunities and possibilities. They believe that everything happens as part of a great process designed to make them successful and happy. They approach their lives, their work, and their relationships with optimism, cheerfulness, and a general attitude of positive expectations. They expect a lot and they are seldom disappointed.

Flex Your Mental Muscles
When you develop the skill of learning from your mistakes, you become the kind of person who welcomes obstacles and setbacks as opportunities to flex your mental muscles and move ahead. You look at problems as rungs on the ladder of success that you grab onto as you pull your way higher.

Two of the most common ways to deal with mistakes are invariably fatal to high achievement. The first common but misguided way to handle a mistake is the failure to accept it when it occurs. According to statistics, 70 percent of all decisions we make will be wrong. That’s an average. This means that some people will fail more than 70 percent of the time, and some people will fail less. It is hard to believe that most of the decisions we make could turn out to be wrong in some way. In fact, if this is the case, how can our society continue to function at all?

Cut Your Losses
The fact is that our society, our families, our companies, and our relationships continue to survive and thrive because intelligent people tend to cut their losses and minimize their mistakes. It is only when people refuse to accept that they have made a bad choice or decision-and prolong the consequences by sticking to that bad choice or decision-that mistakes become extremely expensive and hurtful.

Learn From Your Mistakes
The second common approach that people take with regard to their mistakes, one that hurts innumerable lives and careers, is the failure to use your mistakes to better yourself and to improve the quality of your mind and your thinking.

Learning from your mistakes is an essential skill that enables you to develop the resilience to be a master of change rather than a victim of change. The person who recognizes that he has made a mistake and changes direction the fastest is the one who will win in an age of increasing information, technology and competition.

By remaining fast on your feet, you will be able to out-play and out-position your competition. You will become a creator of circumstances rather than a creature of circumstances.

Action Exercises
Now, here are three steps you can take immediately to put these ideas into action.

First, imagine that your biggest problem or challenge in life has been sent to you at this moment to help you, to teach you something valuable. What could it be?

Second, be willing to cut your losses and walk away if you have made a mistake or a bad choice. Accept that you are not perfect, you can’t be right all the time, and then get on with your life.

Third, learn from every mistake you make. Write down every lesson it contains. Use your mistakes in the present as stepping stones to great success in the future.

The Golden Hour
By: Brian Tracy

You become what you think about most of the time. And the most important part of each day is what you think about at the beginning of that day.

Start Your Day Right
Take 30 minutes each morning to sit quietly and to reflect on your goals. You’ll find when you read the biographies and autobiographies of successful men and women that almost everyone of them began their upward trajectory to success when they begin getting up early in the morning and spending time with themselves.

Feed Your Mind With Positive Ideas
This is called the Golden Hour. The first hour sets the tone for the day. The things that you do in the first hour prepare your mind and set you up for the entire day. During the first thirty to sixty minutes, take time to think and review your plans for the future.

Use Your Quiet Time Effectively
Here are four things that you can do during that quiet time in the morning. Number one is to review your plans for accomplishing your goals and change your plans if necessary.

Number two is think of better ways to accomplish your goals. As an exercise, assume that the way you’re going about it is totally wrong and imagine going about it totally differently. What would you do different from what you’re doing right now?

Number three, reflect on the valuable lessons that you have learned and are learning as you move toward your goals.

Practice Daily Visualization
Number four, calmly visualize your goal as a reality. Close your eyes, relax, smile, and see your goal as though it were already a reality. Rewrite your major goals everyday in the present tense. Rewrite them as though they already existed. Write “I earn X dollars.” “I have a net worth of X.” “I weigh a certain number of pounds.” This exercise of writing and rewriting your goals everyday is one of the most powerful you will ever learn.

Fasten Your Seatbelt
Your life will start to take off at such a speed that you’ll have to put on your seatbelt. Remember, the starting point for achieving financial success is the development of an attitude of unshakable confidence in yourself and in your ability to reach your goals. Everything we’ve talked about is a way of building up and developing your belief system until you finally reach the point where you are absolutely convinced that nothing can stop you from achieving what you set out to achieve.

Everything Counts
No one starts out with this kind of an attitude, but you can develop it using the law of accumulation. Everything counts. No efforts are ever lost. Every extraordinary accomplishment in the result of thousands of ordinary accomplishments that no one recognizes or appreciates. The greatest challenge of all is for you to concentrate your thinking single-mindedly on your goal and by the law of attraction, you will, you must inevitably draw into your life the people, circumstances and opportunities you need to achieve your goals.

Become A Living Magnet
Once you’ve mastered yourself and your thinking, you will become a living magnet for ideas and opportunities to become wealthy. It’s worked for me and for every successful person I know. It will work for you if you’ll begin today, now, this very minute, to think and talk about your dreams and goals as though they were already a reality. When you change your thinking, you will change your life. You will put yourself firmly on the road to financial independence.

Action Exercises
Now, here are two things you can do every single day to keep your mind focused on your financial goals:

First, get up every morning a little bit earlier and plan your day in advance. Take some time to think about your goals and how you can best achieve them. This sets the tone for the whole day.

Second, reflect on the valuable lessons you are learning each day as you work toward your goals. Be prepared to correct your course and adjust your actions. Be absolutely convinced that you are moving rapidly toward your goals, no matter what happens temporarily on the outside. Just hang in there!
