I still don’t think they had the vaguest idea what to do with her, so they just slapped on a label and divied out drugs.

Its something I have been aware of as an issue for many years. I think its worth noting that they are not saying that people do not have a problem that can be identified and given help with-rather that it has been used as a blanket diagnosis with no real meaning that has resulted in mis-application of treatments for very real problems. People have been assuming for years that when a doctor says you have Schizophrenia they mean they have identified a particular problem when all it means is that they have identified that you have a problem, not what it actually is. They then get lazy and lump everyone together rather than explore exactly what the problem is and how best to solve it for each individual.
Im actually rather glad someone in the field has finally broken ranks and fessed up on this because it offers real hope of sensible treatment for a lot of people.
