I think Vinyl is kind of like a Tube Amp. There’s always going to be a group of people, whose numbers vary from decade to decade, that will accept nothing else.

And you can come up with any reason for why vinyl is superior to a digital recording (And I’ve heard some damned compelling reasons) or why tape recording/tube amp is better than digital/solid state amp.

So I think you’re right, there’s ALWAYS going to be vinyl out there, and I think it’s pointless to try and fight a new technology for ANY reason. I love tube amps, because they’re very accurate in recreating the tone of an electric guitar or bass, and even as they distort they stay crip, clear, and free of harsh artifacts in the sound, especially when playing chords or harmonies. However, I like my digital POD FX processor just fine too. *grin*

I don’t have enough experience with DJ’ing to really spout much about it specifically, and to be honest, while I respect Electronic music and the people who produce/play/DJ it, those in the hip-hop genre certainly lack my respect, so I can hardly be objective about the matter, much in the way that I respect classical guitarists and not punk guitarists, and can hardly be objective when talking about the merits or faults of punk bands…

On a semi-side note, a guy I work with is a very analog kind of guy. He made the point that vinyl, unlike digitial, is a continuous sound, whereas digital has tiny splices, and that he could tell the difference between the two just by listening to the music. Kudos to him, I can’t tell. I may just have crappy sound equipment, but whatever…

Anyway, he made the point that if you take analog equipment, record it with analog equipment, and press it to analog (vinyl) then you will have perfectly reproduced sound (or as near to it as possible)

So You’d totally defeat that purpose by using a digital source to insribe a vinyl record. You’d just get a vinyl output of a digital recording.

But I don’t know that anybody really gives a rat’s ass about that. heheheh.

I’m just waiting for them to make some sort of laser-control guitar with no strings before I go from analog string control to digital control over music.
