Dear ASCAP,<\/p>\n
The copyrighted status of “Happy Birthday To You”<\/a> and the law related to the public performance of copyrighted works<\/a> have both recently been brought to my attention. I would therefore like to request permission in advance to sing “Happy Birthday” to my son at CHUCK-E-CHEESE’s<\/a> in Charlotte, NC, on March 14, 2006 at approximately 4:20pm.<\/p>\n
My son will be turning 6 on this day and we will probably be ordering a cake and pizza to celebrate his life. The rest of the party will include the Warblettes, Jasper T. Jowls, Pasqually, Crusty the Cat, my friends Dumb & Dumber, their spouses I’m w\/ Stupid & Stupider. Most of us will be singing while Chuck Cheez will merely mouth the words and smile. We expect there to be approximately 50 disinterested witnesses.<\/p>\n
I realize this is short notice but we only recently settled the details. If there is a charge for the privilege of singing in this instance, please let me know. And, if there is, please specify whether or not the cost can be reduced by moving to another location.<\/p>\n
